Presentation / Graphics
Assignment 3 - Week 11 - Presentation / Graphics
Presentation
The presentation of Sir Axelot has been very consistent throughout its development. The original idea was to stick to a pixelated style, similar to many other popular platformer games. I did not have place-holders for very long and switched to the presentation I am using currently very early on. With that in mind, this week didn't show much change in the way the game looks because of that. The one thing that could be improved for presentation is that background in the game. The reason I did not do that this week , is because I actually like the light purple background that is used for all the outside sections but if I had more time, it is something I would definitely consider updating.
Unfortunately I forgot to have the background showing. D'OH!
Graphics
Similarly to the presentation, I did not really use place-holders for the graphics. I had all the key graphics up and going very early and have changed very little since then. The main shift in graphics was probably after the first week of Sir Axelot's development when I was getting the main player movement implemented. In a matter of two days, Sir Axelot's graphics went from blank square sprites to what is used currently. This excludes the animations for Sir Axelot's different animation states (Idle/Walking/Falling) which were implemented the week after the other graphics. This means that this week hasn't shown much change in graphics or presentation, yet is still a good chance to show the change that has happened since the beginning. The one thing I did add this week, was a small change to the enemy (spider) which was adding a little particle system that is played when the enemy dies and a simple walking animation for when the enemy is moving towards the player.
Change from original place-holder graphics, straight to what the current graphics are

Feedback
It looks good overall. Plays pretty well now as well. Good stuff.
Thank you kindly.
I think it’s a very nice-looking game – I particularly like the knight sprite. A few comments on the animations - I wasn’t sure about the knight’s eye slit (for want of a better term) moving up and down a bit more than the helmet in the idle animation, also the back foot in the walking animation seemed a little off, at least from my perspective. I’m also not 100% sold on the solid-coloured background but it is a nice colour you’ve chosen. I think a bit more detail in the background – maybe including some parallax moving objects – would make the game look even better. Finally from a graphical consistency standpoint, the arrow signs use far smaller pixels than your other assets, so they may seem a bit out of place.
Yeah thanks heaps, I agree with the foot on the animation and plan to fix that soon. The background is okay for now but I do agree and if I have more time in the future I will update it. I also agree with the arrows, I think I have got to make them a bit bigger for sure. All very valid and helpful feedback, thank you.
Overall, I am happy with how the game looks and the overall presentation and graphics. Some small changes will help polish up some things nicely so keen to fix those up.
