Module 1 Devlog
Barrel:
The first object I created in this semester for KIT207 was the blender barrel.
I created this barrel in blender using some simple techniques such as:
cutting moving extruding bevelling
I did not just want to recreate the generic barrel as shown in the self study week 1 module, I wanted to try add a more realistic touch by using a PBR (Physically Based Rendering) texture. This uses things such as a normal map and other things to more accurately control the look of the texture.
I did have some troubles with getting it looking right as my skill when it comes to working with UVs is not amazing. I ended up getting it working and made it look alright but whilst reflecting have seen many ways to do things differently and better next time.
Realistic Barrels Created For Portfolio Work
Portfolio Piece:
For the portfolio work piece, we had to chose a specific tourist attraction in Tasmania.
I chose to model the Cape Wickham Lighthouse using the same techniques that I used to create the barrel. However this piece took more time as it is more complex but puts into practice many of the same techniques as the barrel.
Above on the left is my modelled version of the Cape Wickham Lighthouse and on the right is the reference image that I used.
This piece was super fun to create, I used many of the same techniques as the barrel but also included things such as the Boolean Modifier
and the Array
Modifier. Once again, upon reflection there are definitely many things I will do differently next time in order to more efficiently create the piece and of a higher quality.
