Module 3 Devlog

Unity Terrain:

Oh unity terrain, what can I say, YOUR GREAT, but I also hate your guts... anyway since we were forced to work together, I was forced to get to know you better and in doing so, expanded my unity knowledge.

All jokes aside this weeks self study was focused on unity terrains and ProBuilder. Unity terrains is a feature in unity, there is also a thing called the terrain tools package in the unity registry that allows you to more "easily" make terrains for games. It sometimes is a bit annoying but in all fairness once you get it going, things actually turn out quite well. Not only can you make terrains, but you can paint on textures and other things like trees, which can actually just be any object (I painted on some lighthouses haha). The terrain also dynamically moves objects that have used the paint trees tools which is great as it allows you to make changes to the ground without worrying about re-doing all the objects on it.

ProBuilder:

ProBuilder is a Unity package that allows the user to create things similarly to how they would in an 3D modelling application similar to Blender. This allows quick prototyping of objects from within Unity itself. Probuilder is also great as it makes setting up colliders on the objects you create much easier than setting up custom meshes for imported models. See the above image for what I created in ProBuilder (the little house and tube coming off the light house.
